Indonesian Fixer is a film-video production support company offering comprehensive services for foreign productions working in Indonesia, with a particular focus and expertise in the documentary film genre. In addition to full-scale production support, we also specialized in providing fixer services for foreign journalist/ media teams—in television and broadcasting—who are conducting broadcast journalistic assignments across the country.
Since 2000, we have built strong professional relationships and networks across the film, media, and journalism industries in Indonesia. Over the years, we have supported numerous international film-video productions, helping them achieve success while saving both time and costs. Our in-depth knowledge of local resources, regulations, and service providers enables us to deliver tailored solutions across various requests and budget levels. This allows production teams to begin work immediately without the burden of logistical or licensing concerns.
Masrur Jamaluddin Ahmad, called Jamal, is the driving element behind Indonesian Fixer. With a distinguished career spanning 27 years as a journalist and documentary filmmaker, he embodies the roles of researcher, writer, producer, director, location manager (field producer) and fixer. His keen sensitivity to current issues and events empowers him to dig deep to find the heart of a story, bringing it to life through compelling and powerful documentaries.
To do film shooting or conduct journalistic work (or documentary production) in Indonesia, foreign crew members and journalists are required to obtain a Film Visa (for film purpose) and a J-Visa (for journalist). This visa is mandatory, and violations can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment and deportation.
We assist our clients in securing the necessary visa through a process that is transparent, efficient, and cost-effective. Not all production support companies are authorized to act as guarantors or facilitate this visa process. Our company is officially registered and recognized by the Indonesian government and is included in the list distributed to all Indonesian embassies worldwide.
We have built strong, long-standing working relationships with skilled and experienced crews across Indonesia, including Directors, Cinematographers, Producers, Camera Operators, Location manager, Sound Mixers, Grips, Gaffers, Personal Assistants, to translator/interpreter. Each crew member brings specialized skills and diverse experience tailored to their field—whether in feature films, documentaries, corporate videos, commercials, or public service announcements. Our crews are also experienced in collaborating with international teams, making it seamless for clients to integrate local professionals with international crew members brought into Indonesia.
Remote shooting and directing? Yes, it’s not only possible — it’s something we’ve mastered. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted international travel and kept foreign crews grounded, our experience in remote production quickly became essential.
As a producer and director myself, I’ve seen how effective remote collaboration can be when supported by a skilled local crew, a strong creative vision, and the right tools. With clear direction, thoughtful planning, and seamless communication, we ensure that distance never compromises quality. Your story can still be told — beautifully, powerfully, and without borders.
"I have been working with Jamal since 2008, when we launched Metropolis TV..."
I have been working with Jamal since 2008, when we launched Metropolis TV, a globally produced television series for the Dutch public broadcasters VPRO and HUMAN. Jamal has produced dozens of beautiful and compelling reports from across Indonesia for this program.
Working with Jamal is always a great pleasure. His reports consistently maintain a high standard—both in storytelling and in technical and aesthetic quality.
Simply put, Jamal is a smart, friendly, and highly professional TV journalist. I would highly recommend him as a TV journalist, fixer, and documentary producer.
"We've had the pleasure of working with Jamal since 2019 across.."
We've had the pleasure of working with Jamal since 2019 across a range of documentary and factual TV projects in Indonesia.
He is an outstanding producer with a proven talent for setting up complex shoots, often in challenging or sensitive environments. As a field director, he has consistently delivered high-quality footage and has a strong creative eye—both in visual storytelling and in conducting thoughtful and incisive interviews.
Jamal is well-organised, highly reliable and an excellent communicator, who understands the demands and standards of international television production. We consider him a vital part of our productions in Indonesia.
"I had the pleasure of working with Jamal on a Channel 5 documentary for the UK.."
I had the pleasure of working with Jamal on a Channel 5 documentary for the UK, part of the Extraordinary People strand, about Arya, a 10-year-old child who at the time was known as the heaviest boy in the world. Over the course of our three-week shoot in Java, Jamal was an essential part of the team - helpful, knowledgeable, professional, and incredibly generous with his time and insight.
We were filming in sensitive circumstances, navigating complex family dynamics, emotional conversations, and medical challenges. Jamal was instrumental throughout, providing clear, thoughtful translation and helping us communicate and produce with compassion and care. His cultural fluency and deep empathy ensured we handled every moment with grace and professionalism.
Beyond his logistical expertise - opening doors to local communities, smoothing out countless challenges, and enriching our storytelling - Jamal’s calm, friendly presence helped us build genuine trust with Arya and his family. By the end of the production, he felt more like a friend than a fixer, and we still keep in touch to this day.
Jamal is not only a brilliant fixer and producer, but also a truly great human being. I would recommend him without hesitation.
